'The Story of White Boy Rick and the War on Drugs' Goes on Sale

"Prisoner of War: The Story of White Boy Rick and the War on Drugs," a 400-page book by former Detroit broadcast reporter Vince Wade, goes on sale Monday.

It chronicles the story of Richard Wershe Jr., how he got caught up in the war on drugs at 14 and was sentenced to life in prison for cocaine trafficking a few years later.

Wershe, paroled last year, is in a Florida prison to serve time for involvement in a car theft ring while he was in prison there. He's expected to be paroled in 2020.  

The 20-chapter book, self-published by Wade, includes a cast of characters who include hitman Nate Craft, former Mayor Coleman A. Young, ex-Police Chief William Hart and former city councilman and homicide investigator Gil Hill.

The $16.99 paperback is sold through AmazonBarnes and Noble and at bookstores.An e-book versions for Kindle is $4.99.
