Scrappers Vandalize Another Shuttered Detroit Fire Station

The city of Detroit is losing its shuttered fire stations one by one.

Sarah Cwiek of Michigan Public Radio reports scrappers have hit Engine Co. 10, on Vinewood near Michigan in southwest Detroit, which was shut down in the widespread cutbacks in July.

City officials confirmed Monday night that copper pipes were scrapped.

It's the second time in recent weeks that a closed Detroit firehouse has fallen victim to vandals and scrappers. Engine 49's quarters on Grand River in northwest Detroit suffered a similar fate. Fire department officials acknowledged that building was unsecured, though it's not clear if that was the case at Engine 10.
