That's Pure Michigan: Copyright Dispute Keeps Statewide Sing-A-Long Offline

September 25, 2012, 8:28 AM

Last August, a couple ad men drove around Michigan.

They stopped at 50 of our most cherished sites…from the west side's pastoral wine country to Ann Arbor’s Michigan Stadium…where the weather is always partly sunny with chance of smug.

These Grand Rapids Don Drapers filmed what they saw and put together a video capturing the glories…the [second descriptor]…the [third descriptor] of Michigan…complete with Pure Michiganders lip-syncing a song.

Then they put their opus on YouTube…where it was promptly removed. No one secured the rights to the music.

Pure Michigan’s best and brightest are now working to get their video back online.

Copyright infringement. Self-inflicted wounds. A tradition unlike any other. Pure Michigan. -- JTW
