Duggan Files Papers To Raise Money For Mayoral Run

September 26, 2012, 6:53 AM

Former Wayne County Prosecutor and Detroit Medical Center head Mike Duggan filed paper work today to create a committee to run for mayor of Detroit, the Free Press reports.

The two-page filing establishing Duggan's candidate’s committee was filed in the Wayne County Clerk’s office around 8 a.m. today.

Neither Duggan nor his representatives could be reached immediately this morning. His son, Edward Duggan, said the campaign would speak to the media at some point today.

Other city dwellers who are rumored to be considering running for mayor include state Rep. Fred Durhal Jr.; U.S. Rep. Hansen Clarke, who lost his re-election bid in August; City Council President Charles Pugh, and Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon. State Rep. Lisa Howze is the only candidate to officially announce candidacy.

Duggan's candidacy would be notable because, if elected, he would be the city's first white mayor since Roman Gribbs left office in 1973.

Candidates have to form a committee before they can raise campaign money. The mayoral race is next year.
