Why Mudgie's in Corktown Brings a Ton -- Literally -- of Lobster from Maine

July 19, 2018, 7:16 AM

Mudgie's Deli & Wine Shop at 1300 Porter St. in Detroit's Corktown brings 2,000 pounds of lobster in daily deliveries from Baily Island, Maine, for its popular lobster roll week, which is July 23-28, reports Susan Selasky of the Detroit Free Press.

It's the sixth year Mudgie's has pulled this off.

Owner Greg Mudge tells the Freep last year he went  through 1,600 pounds of lobster meat for rolls and bisque. This year, only rolls with four-ounces of lobster will be on the menu.

The cost: $21, or 21 clams as they might say about lobstah rolls in New England. .
