We're suckers for pizza and amusing animals, expecially as a combo. So props to the clever crew at the Franco public relations shop downtown for cooking up this eye-grabbing way to promote the 13th Buddy's Pizza site in Michigan.

The restaurant has inside and outside seating.

A Detroit Zoo location opens Thursday morning opposite the historic Horace H. Rackham Memorial Fountain. The all-year restaurant, with 163 seats inside and on an outdoor patio, includes a rooftop terrace that becomes the zoo's highest vantage point. It'll open daily from 11 a.m. until closing time at the zoo, located in Royal Oak at 10 Mile and Woodward.

The 72-year-old Detroit restaurant, working with the zoo, shows how a few four-legged pizza lovers react to boxes of Buddy's square pies in their enclosures. (Can't lie:  A fresh-from-the-oven pizza aroma makes us grab and drool too.)

Buddy's, which doesn't believe in a half-baked rollout, presents a $1,000 check to the Detroit Zoological Society at Thursday's kickoff ceremony.

Ants are not available as a topping, but this diner is interested anyhow.

A polar bear sniffs a cheesy-doughy-saucy aroma of interest.

Open daily from 11 a.m. until the zoo shuts.
