Just a little short of a century ago -- in 1924 -- Detroit started the traditional Thanksgiving Day parade.

A lot has happened since the start -- an industrial revolution, a car industry that recovered from near-death,  a couple race riots, four World Series victories for the Tigers (1935, 1945, 1968, 1984), some recessions and some booming times.

Yes, a city has lots of up and downs, and as the old saying goes, the only thing constant in life is change.

So with that change, it's nice to see an old tradition like the Thanksgiving Parade carry on. Floats. Smiles. Cold weather. Woodward Avenue.

It's good to see a constant in a sea of change, good and bad.

To quote Oprah Winfrey: "Be thankful for what you have you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you'll never have enough."

Happy Thanksgiving!
