Hard Rock Cafe in Downtown Detroit to Close in January

November 28, 2018, 4:03 PM

The Hard Rock Cafe, which opened 15 years ago in what's now One Campus Martius on Monroe in downtown Detroit, closes in two months, Melody Baetens of The Detroit News reports.

Hard Rock International, based in Florida, said the lease is up and the bar-restaurant will shut Jan. 26.

“The brand remains committed to the city and is open to having another location within the market, if the right space can be identified,” the company said in a statement released Wednesday.

The chain folded its St. Louis site three months ago and closed in Toronto last year. One in Maui closed two years ago, Sacramento lost its location in 2010, Montreal's folded in 2009 and the Salt Lake City outlet died in 2008.

Hard Rock, founded 48 years ago in London, had 185 cafes around the world as of last July. It also runs 25 hotels and 12 casinos.
