There's not a lot of sit-down dining on Plymouth Road near Southfield, save for the original Starter's Bar and Grill that opened decades ago.

But this week, the area known as the Joy community got its first full-service spot in 20 years in Fusion Flare Kitchen & Cocktails, the concept of chef-owner Mashelle Sykes.

Sykes has put together a menu that blends American and soul food, the Free Press reports.

“Fusion Flare is a place where family, friends and newcomers are always welcome for any occasion," [Sykes said in a statement.] "I am excited to share my love of quality food with Detroiters and suburbanites alike while also inspiring new development in this Detroit neighborhood.”

The location is the former Timeout Sports Bar, which Sykes owned with her husband. The graduate of Oakland Community College’s Culinary program is pitching her new restaurant as a lunch, dinner and weekend brunch place that will serve appetizers, entrees, sandwiches and salads.

Fusion is at 16801 Plymouth Rd. It's open daily except Monday, starting at 11 a.m. Closing times vary from 9 p.m. to midnight. More information is at fusionflare.net.
