Time to show generosity for the less fortunate while filling the belly.
The annual "Empty Bowls Detroit" charity event is Friday from 5-10:30 p..m. at Shed 5 in Eastern Market.
Last year, more than 1,000 guests dished out more than $96,000, which went toward food programs at Cass Community Social Services. The noinprofit serves over 700,000 meals in Detroit each year.
For a $50 donation in advance ($60 at the door), guyests get a sampling of soups, bread, cheese, beer, wine and dessert donated by more than 20 Metro Detroit restaurants and organizations.
Additionally, international recording artist and Detroit native Apropos will perform, along with other entertainers.
Some big-time notables -- and some not-so notables like Allan Lengel and Violet Ikonomova of Deadline Detroit -- will be serving soup throughout the night.
