Over the decades some of the iconic restaurants along Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak like the Totem Pole and Susie Q came and went. But Pasquale's Family Restaurant, known for its pizza and pasta,  endured.

Now, after 65 years Pasquale's is closing its doors on Sunday, April 7, Michah Walker of the Detroit Free Press reports.

"This was a difficult decision and we want to express our gratitude to all of our loyal customers for your patronage over the past 65 years," a statement from the restaurants reads. "Pasquale's would not have thrived without you!"

"Thank you for the memories. We will cherish them always."

Pasquale's first opened in 1954 on Woodward in a building now occupied by Red Coat Tavern. In 1971, it moved to it current spot at 31555 Woodward Ave., between 13 Mile and Normandy Roads. It is owned by the three sons of the original owner, who want to retire.

The Free Press reported last year Pasquale's was up for sale or lease, The property is almost 15,000 square feet and has two floors. A co-owner declined to tell the Freep if the space will remain a restaurant.
