The 2017 graduate of Fordson High School attended Henry Ford Community College in his hometown, Jessica Dupnack reports for Fox 2 (video below).

His close group of friends are leaning on each other as they try and make sense of this tremendous loss.

"He was a good kid and made us all happy. . . . It's very, very heartbreaking. I really wish he was here today. He would have made us all have smiles on our faces," said Aymen Mustafa. "A lot of people are shocked that he's gone."

The friend spoke at a small gathering in Dearborn's Ford Field Park on Sunday night, two days after Altaii fell from a room balcony at the Grand Solaris Hotel around 9:40 p.m. in the popular resort on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. The victim's girlfriend, identified only as Heidi, told authorities he had started drinking early in the day, The Yucatan Times reports.

A Fordon schoolmate, Daoud Abdelfattah, posts a GoFundMe drive to help the family with funeral costs. Nearly 300 donors give more than $12,000 in two days, passing the $10,000 goal.
