At Last! A Greek Restaurant Will Open Soon in Greektown

Athina Papas says her childhood memories are filled with Sunday family lunches at Pegasus, where her family would sit for hours enjoying both the food and each others' company.

But over the last few years, the number of Greek restaurants in Greektown has dwindled.

Papas said she wants to ensure Greektown retains its cultural heritage, so she's converting Mosaic into the Greek-themed restaurant Santorini Estiatorio. It's scheduled to open Nov. 1.

"When Mosaic opened, there were seven Greek restaurants in Greektown. Now there are three," Papas told Nathan Skid of Crain's Detroit Business. 

"We are seeing representation die down so thought it was important to make sure our kids know about their culture."
