Detroit's Ochre Bakery is getting well-deserved national recognition: Bon Appetit magazine has named it one of the country’s top ten new restaurants.

Ochre — a modern cafe that opened last spring on a developing stretch of Grand River in Core City — comes in at number four on the list.

Bon Appetit’s Sarah Jampel gave the following menu items a glowing review:

... we contemplated how the scrambled eggs were so expertly seasoned, how the beet dip was so refreshing (can beet dip be refreshing?!), and how the pistachio cake—which happens to be vegan—was plusher and moister than any non-vegan pistachio cake we’d tasted before.

(We raved too when we visited earlier this summer.)

The bakery-restaurant at Grand River and 16th Street is the latest concept from, Jessica Hicks and Dai Hughes, the couple behind Astro Coffee in Corktown. They shared seven recipes with Bon Appetit, including the spiced eggs with tzatziki; beet and hazelnut dip, and lemon-pistachio loaf.
