Shaking bad behavior can be hard. That appears to be the case for Brian Banks, a state House candidate from Harper Woods.
He's an eight-time felon convicted of bouncing checks and credit card fraud between 1998 and 2004, as Banks confirmed to the Detroit Free Press last month.
After the story appeared, reports and records of recent civil litigation involving unpaid rent and bounced checks surfaced.
On Wednesday, a $3,751 judgment was entered against Banks for nonpayment of rent at a residence on Fleetwood in Harper Woods, records show.
In addition, the Free Press reports, Southfield attorney Ira Auslander said Banks bounced two checks to his client, landlord Dan Sylvester. And in August, according to district court records, Banks was ordered evicted from a Harper Woods home in a case that involved a judgment of nearly $2,000.
Banks declined to comment, as did an attorney representing him in the past.
After winning a five-way Democratic primary in August, Banks is favored to win the general election Tuesday in the heavily Democratic 1st District, which includes northeast Detroit, Harper Woods, Grosse Pointe Woods and part of Grosse Pointe Shores.
His opponent is Republican Dan Schulte, mayor pro tem of Grosse Pointe Shores.
