November 12, 2012, 7:59 AM

Four homes were destroyed by a two-alarm fire on Detroit's east side early Monday morning.

Firefighters responded to the homes near McDougall and E. Ferry Street early Monday morning.  At least one of the homes was occupied, WDIV-TV reported.

Officials had to summon an extra engine when flying embers carried the blaze to trees and a nearby field.

The cause of the fires is under investigation.
