Dan Gilbert and his partners have purchased the 26-story One Woodward building in downtown Detroit, the old Michigan Consolidated Gas Co. building that was designed by architect Minoru Yamasaki.

Yamasaki later created the World Trade Center towers in New York City, and elements of their design can be seen in the 50-year-old One Woodward Building, which is across from Detroit city hall at Woodward and Jefferson.

Rock Ventures is part of the Quicken Loans Inc. family of companies. In a statement, th company said it plans to renovate the building to accommodate the growing demand for space in the city's emerging technology district.

It is the 10th building that Gilbert and his partners have bought since January 2011.
