Big Bob Bashara Gets Up to 20 Years in Murder Plot

December 10, 2012, 9:50 AM

Big Bob Bashara got hit this morning with a sentence of 6 years and 8 months to 20 years for his plot to kill the handyman Joe Gentz, who is charged in his wife's death.

"I am truly and humbly sorry for my actions," the burly Grosse Pointe Park man said in a statement to Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Bruce U. Morrow, according to the Free Press. "I apologize to this court. I apologize to Mr. Gentz. I apoligize to my family and friends."

Bashara pleaded guilty in October to putting a hit on handyman Joe Gentz, who has told authorities Bashara hired him to kill his wife Jane Bashara. She was found strangled in her SUV in an alley on Detroit's east side.

The sentence on Monday is not likely to end this mess.

Law enforcement sources have told Deadline Detroit that Bashara is still expected to be charged in his wife's death.
