A Bag Of Doritos, Two Women And A Drone: The Detroit Entry In A Super Bowl Ad Contest

January 22, 2013, 3:08 PM

This is the story of a Super Bowl ad made by a Detroiter that won't air during the Super Bowl.

Harry Arnold is a Detroit-based videographer who operates iTVDetroit, a Detroit-based company specializing in aerial photography with radio-controlled, camera-equipped vehicles, commonly known as drones.

Arnold entered the "Crash the Super Bowl" contest to create a Doritos' ad for the big game. Entries recently were whittled down to five semi-finalists, whose ads are being voted on now on the brand's "Crash the Super Bowl" Facebook page.

Arnold didn't make the cut.

Public voting will narrow the field to two 30-second finalists that will be shown Feb. 3 during the Super Bowl. The ad-maker who creates the top-ranked Doritos commercial aired during the game -- as determined by USA TODAY'S Ad Meter consumer poll of best-liked Super Bowl commercials -- wins the chance to work with Hollywood director Michael Bay on the next installment of the Transformers movie franchise, to be filmed in 2013.

Arnold normally uses his aerial vehicle to shoot a wide array of commercial projects for developers, construction companies, real estate firms, golf courses, attorneys, federal, state and local governments and other clients.

Deadline Detroit also has run several of Arnold's drone videos, including the search in Roseville for Jimmy Hoffa's body and a drone's eye view of Tyree Guyton's Heidelberg Project.

Arnold can be reached at iTVDetroit@gmail.com.
