It’s almost Valentine’s Day, and that means it’s time for an event that is growing in importance on Detroit’s cultural calendar -- the Dirty Show, Detroit’s erotic art exhibition. It’s back for the 14th year, bigger than ever.

If you are an art connoisseur, voyeur, scenester, fun-seeker or exhibitionist; or you have a libido that fires up at the sight of stuffed horses with large erections or sculpted female genitalia on an oversized fortune cookie; or you like to attend public gatherings on a leash, or with your breasts exposed, or you are just a person with slightly above average curiosity, the Dirty Show might be for you.

The Dirty Show has received little coverage in the local media, but it has grown into one of the largest erotic art spectacles in North America. It is also one of those events that helps create a reputation for Detroit as an offbeat arts hub.

More than 10,000 people paid to get in last year in Detroit, said Dirty Show founder and impresario Jerry Peterson, a.k.a. Jerry Vile, a local artist, publisher and punk performer whose creative antics have entertained and appalled audiences for 35 years.
