A race car driver shows how a pro navigates Campus Martius, other blocked-off streets, Belle Isle and Cobo's rooftop in a video submitted as part of Detroit's bid for the Summer X Games.
Bid organizers asked Ford Racing team executives to demonstrate that downtown is well-suited for the rallycross event, according to RallySport Magazine.
"OlsbergsMSE team principal Andreas Eriksson agreed to test the new Ford Fiesta ST rallycross car in Detroit for the bid team to film," says a brief item posted Friday with this two-minute highlights tape, which includes dramatic skylines and airborne roadwork on Belle Isle.
Kevin Krease, co-organizer of detroit's bid, tells Deadline Detroit that ESPN is expected to decide "any day now" where to hold the four-day event in 2014-16. Finalists are Detroit, Chicago, Austin and Charlotte, N.C.
