What Is Charles Pugh In Trouble For Today? Campaign Finance Questions

Fox 2 News Headlines

TV newscaster-turned-politician-turned missing person Charles Pugh has had his share of problems lately. And Charlie LeDuff is only adding to Pugh's troubles!

A couple years ago, LeDuff questioned the then-paycheck earning City Council President about some issues with his campaign finance record including some odd ATM withdrawals from the campaign fund. At the time, Pugh said he knew nothing and blamed the withdrawals and his lack of properly filed campaign finance reports on his campaign manager and finance director.

Who was Charles Pugh's campaign treasurer? Turns out it was Charles Pugh, according to recently filed paperwork. Oh and it gets better.

Fox 2: There are lots of curious things in this campaign finance statement like a stay at the Marriott in Washington D.C. just six block from the White House. The problem is there is no Marriott six blocks from the White House like Pugh's financial statement claims, and a desk clerk at another D.C. Mariott laughed at me when I asked if they had a room for just $49.69. Not even with a coupon, she snickered.

LeDuff also talked to local political consultant Adolf Mongo, who suggested Pugh should just turn in his resignation and stay missing. That's no fun. What we really need is for Pugh to do a televised Richard Nixon-style "Checkers" speech where he lays out all the details of his finances for all the world to see. Because if he spent that $49.69 billed to a nonexistent Marriott on a cocker spaniel puppy, I'm sure we can let him keep it.
