Hit The Beach

At Campus Martius, that is. The Great Downtown Sandbox that is Campus Martius has some stellar Friday night offerings -- an awesome kid-friendly locale, an outdoor bar called "The Beach" for adults, nearby Fountain Bistro for A/C breaks and whatever "tropical rock" music is. It's a weekly gig, and we heard last Friday was pretty stellar.

Check it out on Friday.

Find Island Charm

Harsen's Island in Lake St. Clair is hosting the first annual Tashmoo Days. It has nothing to do with Detroit's pop-up biergarten, other than being named after the same boat. Nonetheless, there's beer, music, and a chance to see the darling island where that message in a bottle from 1915 was found a few weeks ago.

Find details here.

Get S'mitten

11 hours of music, 20 Michigan bands, and 1 Ohio band for $10. The Magic Stick hosts S'mittenfest this year to benefit 826michigan, a nonprofit teaching organization. Bands donated their time, so you can feel good about your money, even during bankruptcy times.

It starts Saturday.

Play Hide-And-Seek With the DIA

While everyone argues over what happens to Detroit's assets, they aren't going anywhere! If you haven't been able to check out the DIA's semi-hidden replicas of famous paintings scattered about the metro area, this weekend's a good a time as any.

See the scavenger hunt map of the DIA's InsideOut program here.

Bonus: Play the Detroit Bankruptcy Drinking Game!
