Benny Napoleon Stonewalls Metro Times; Won't Say If He Has Weaknesses

July 24, 2013, 10:18 PM

Benny Napoleon is one perfect mayoral candidate.

In a contentious interview with the Metro Times that appears in the current issue, the Wayne County Sheriff who wants to be mayor of Detroit just couldn't come up with any personal shortcomings when an interviewer asked him if he had any.

MT: What are some weaknesses that you have that you would have to overcome?

Napoleon:I can’t think of any. You’d have to give me some time.

MT: OK. Well, maybe we can come back to that, if you think about it while we’re talking. I mean, at every job interview I’ve ever had, “they say no one’s perfect, everybody has some weaknesses.” But maybe this is an exception.

Napoleon: I’m not in a job interview; I’m in an interview with you for the Metro Times.

MT: Right, but we kind of treat it, you know—

Napoleon: I’m not interviewing for a job with Metro Times.

Whoa!

That testy exchange doesn't bode well if Napoleon become mayor and Emergency Manager Kevin Orr leaves and the mayor actually has some power again, and reporters surround Mayor Napoleon and ask such questions as, "How much did you divert from the pension funds?" or "Why did it take EMS 90 minutes to answer that heart-attack run?" or "When will the street lights come back on?

Metro Times' staffers interviewed all six serious candidates for mayor, and mostly asked serious questions, but they ligtened up a little and asked about weaknesses and favorite movies.

Krystal Crtittendon said her biggest weakness is knowing how to delegate authority.

Tom Barrow said his biggest weakness was sticking pins into his voodoo doll named Mike.

Actually Barrow said his biggest weakness is getting upset when people he is working are lax on important issues.

When MT asked Napoleon for his favorite movie, he called himself "a true movie person" but said he couldn't come up with one.

Seriously.
