There's a new write-in candidate for Detroit mayor: 30-year-old Mike Dugeon, who filed his papers this morning.
He said his name is pronounced DUG-un, as in Mike Duggan, but even that is not certain. It might be pronounced like "DUZH-un."
Dugeon is already widely seen as a potential spoiler to Mike Duggan’s write-in candidacy for mayor.
Dugeon, according to Matt Helms in the Free Press, is a Detroit barber who is unknown in Detroit political circles.
Charlie LeDuff, on Fox 2, tracked down Dugeon and says he will have an interview with him on the 5 p.m. newscast.
Dugeon's platform consists of freeway Subway sandwiches, chips and soda pop for every citizen, according to LeDuff's report.
For write-in candidates, voters will have to physically write a name on the ballot to vote for him, and fill in a circle. A similar-sounding name could cause confusion, which could cost Duggan votes.
On Dugeon's personal Facebook page, he complains about women not taking his calls unless he provides them booze and marijuana.
Brandon Hynes of Detroit, director of campaign scheduling and advance work for the real Mike Duggan, suggests on Facebook that the newcomer is a paid shill for another candidate -- though he doesn't point a finger. "I just hope whatever he received to do this is worth the scrutiny he is about to receive," Hynes posted Thursday afternoon on a friend's page.
On his own Facebook page, the Duggan aide says:
Why would people promote the candidacy of a bogus write-in with a similar name to Mike Duggan? Because they think people are stupid enough to be duped. I think more of my neighbors than that.
What's unclear is how the young barber got the sharp-looking logo above and a Dugeon for Detroit page on Facebook that launched Thursday, also with a professional-looking graphic. It already has more than 3,200 fans somehow.
