September 09, 2013, 10:11 AM by  Allan Lengel

Lafayette and American Coney Island, the downtown Detroit legends on Lafayette Blvd., have made their  way into AMC's new Detroit cop show "Low Winter Sun."

A recent episode made several references to the coneys and showed them as well.

In real life, two of the main actors, Mark Strong, who plays  Detroit Police Det. Frank Agnew, and Lennie James, who plays Det. Joe Geddes,  weighed in on the perennial Coney Island debate on Twitter on Sunday evening.

James tweeted:  "Tried them both. I'm American for the dog, Lafayette for the chili and the fence I'm sitting on is hurting my arse!"

Strong remarked:  "Lafayette is older. American more colorful. Can't taste the difference but a Detroit native may take issue on that!"

Chris Mundy, the show's executive producer tweeted: "After our pilot wrap party, half the actors and crew ended up at Lafayette at 1:00 a.m."
