Joseph Gentz, the man authorities think killed Jane Bashara, may seem a little…umm…"off" but he is competent to stand trial, according to a court ruling.
Freep: Gentz appeared for a short hearing this afternoon in Detroit’s 36th District Court. He is charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy in Bashara’s death. She was found strangled in her SUV, which had been dumped in an east-side Detroit alley on Jan. 25.
Gentz, who records show has a history of emotional and psychiatric condition, has undergone a psychiatric evaluation. According to Macomb County Circuit Court records, Gentz was diagnosed in 2003 with being bipolar and suffering from a mood disorder and his IQ is listed as 67, which is well below average.
Wayne County Prosecutors allege Gentz, who had worked as a handyman for Bob Bashara, and “another known individual” killed Jane Bashara.
Bob Bashara has denied any involvement in his wife’s murder. -- JTW
