Renisha McBride, a 19-year-old Detroiter, was shot Nov. 2 on a Dearborn Heights front porch.

Oralandar Brand-Williams reports on the Wayne County hearing for The Detroit News:

A trial date has been set for June 2 for Theodore Wafer, the Dearborn Heights homeowner charged in the shooting death of Detroiter Renisha McBride.

The trial is expected to last two weeks and will include testimony from about 25 prosecutor and defense witnesses.

Wafer pleaded not guilty in court Wednesday before Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Qiana Lillard during his arraignment.

He was bound over last month in Dearborn Heights district court on charges in the case.

The News recaps the high-profile case:

McBride, 19, was fatally shot while standing on Wafer’s porch in the early morning of Nov. 2. Her family said she was seeking help following an accident hours earlier. Wafer’s attorney has said the shooting was justified. Toxicology results have showed McBride had a large amount of alcohol and traces of marijuana in her system.

Wafer is out on bond while awaiting trial.
