January 19, 2014, 6:34 AM

Do The Auto Show Right

The Auto Show opened to the public Saturday, meaning people from all over will be streaming into Cobo. Cars are great and all, but if you're going to be downtown, why not take some time to see town?

Jalopnik Detroit published a spot-on guide to the auto show that covers where to see automotive history and where to venture when you're ready for food and drinks.

A Motor City Automotive Tour

If wandering about the city doesn't appeal to you, an auto show-inpsired tour from Show Me Detroit is a great option.

The $50, 3.5-hour tour covers autos history, modern developments and ends with a beer sampling.

The next tours are Saturday, Jan. 25, at 10AM and 2:30 PM.

Focus Hope's Big Picture Gallery

Photos taken by students participating in various Focus: HOPE programs will have their work displayed at the 555 Gallery. Focus: HOPE, a local nonprofit, offers programming to combat racism, poverty and hunger.

The show opened Thursday and runs through Feb. 2.

Attend A Science Fiction Festival

Legendary ConFusion takes over the Dearborn DoubleTree this weekend. The science fiction and fantasy convention promises a costume contest, writing workshop, swordsmanship lessons and programming for kids.

ConFusion runs all weekend. Check out the schedule here.

See Detroit On The Big Screen

The Burton Theater is showing "The End Of Time" this weekend, a film shot partially in Detroit. Cinema Detroit says the movie "travels the planet, exploring the links between renewal and destruction, between mysticism and modern science, giving the viewer a transcendent cinematic experience."

See the film at the Burton Theater, a shuttered Detroit school turned film house. Showtimes are here.

Star Wars Roller Derby

Some of Detroit most badass women faced off in a bout of Star Wars-themed roller derby Saturday. If the promise of roller derby wasn't already enough, costumes, trivia and an after party at Northern Lights in New Center will also be involved.

Bonus: Wayne State art students display their work.
