The Detroit City Council distraction that goes by the name George Cushingberry continues to generate media attention for the wrong reasons.

WDIV's Rod Meloni reports that the Public Service Credit Union is suing Cushingberry and his wife Maria because they defaulted on two home mortgages -- one for $242,000 and another for $116,000 -- and left behind damaged properties.

WDIV reports that the credit union received only $43,000 from one home in a sheriff's sale, and $96,000 in another sheriff's sale. The credit union wants to recoup more from the defaulted loans and is suing for $153,000.

The lender acknowledges that vandals and scavengers may have wrecked a home on Cherrylawn, but alleges that damage to the one on Marygrove was "caused by,or at the direction of the defendants," the station says.

Cushingberry's attorney, Todd Russell Perkins, tells Meloni the credit union doesn't have a case, saying:

"There's no impact that he has as it relates to these legal matters, as it relates to what he is doing on behalf of the citizens of Detroit."
