Cushingberry's Ticket is Dimissed After Officer Fails to Show for Court

March 04, 2014, 7:17 AM

When it comes to Detroit City Council President Pro Tem George Cushingberry Jr., controversy seems to only create more controversy.

The latest: His highly-publicized traffic ticket issued in January was recently dismissed after the Detroit Police officer in the case never showed up to court.

WXYZ's Simon Shaykhet reports that the subpoena for the officer to appear in court was mailed to a unit where he previously worked and he never got it. Shaykhet reports that the officer plans to reissue the ticket so he can show up to court.

You might recall Cushingberry and a friend were pulled over after leaving the Penthouse bar. Police found an open bottle of alcohol and marijuana. Cushingberry was just issued a traffic citation. The department has launched a probe to determine whether Cushingberry got preferential treatment.

Cushingberry said he just had one drink that night and the marijuana belonged to a friend who had a medical marijuana card. -- A.L.
