Projects often move at a glacial pace, and after five years, the Hantz Farm, the largest urban tree farm in the nation, is about to take shape.

Crain's Detroit Business reports that volunteers -- there are about 350 so far -- are set to plant 15,000 saplings on May 17. The project area is the square mile bounded by Mack and Jefferson Avenue and St. Jean and Van Dyke streets.

Believe it or not, the planting will start at 10 a.m. and is expected to be completed in three hours, Crain's reports.

Volunteers will meet at the corner of Belvidere and Goethe streets south of Mack Avenue.

In addition to the tree farm, John Gallagher of the Free Press reports:

On Friday, the RecoveryPark project off East Grand Boulevard began construction of a “high tunnel,” a sort of greenhouse measuring 30 by about 145 feet, in which more than two dozen varieties of herbs and vegetables will be grown for sale to local restaurants and markets.
