The Cush is back in the news -- and not for something good.
Christine Ferretti of the Detroit News reports that the Public Service Credit Union is suing Council President Pro Tem George Cushingberry and his wife Maria Drew Cushingberry, claiming they “willfully and maliciously” damaged their foreclosed home. It is seeking more than $56,000.
Specifically, the credit union alleges that the couple removed its kitchen cabinets and fixtures.
Todd Russell Perkins, attorney for the couple, calls the allegations unfounded, saying the couple took what belonged to them, and pointed out that empty homes often burglarized. he says there were several reported break-ins after they moved out, the News reports. -- Allan Lengel
