Harvey Drouillard Photographs Nudes During Each Year's Ann Arbor Art Fair

As Ann Arbor photographer, Harvey Drouillard tells it, he's been to 30 North American cities where he's taken black and white nude photos in public places of about 3,500 different people. His record is photographing 19 nude people at one time.

"I personally don't care who it is as long as they're at least 18 and have the spirit," says Drouillard, 50, who prefers to be simply referred to as "Harvey," minus his last name.

Last week, for the 22nd time in a row, he took nude photos around Ann Arbor of nude people during the Art Fair. Some were at the Art Fair. Others were nearby.

He says he trains those who pose for the photos in public places. They all volunteer for free. Of the 3,500 people he has photographed since the 1990s, only about 100 have had some modeling experience, he said.

Before he shoots, they practice. They have to be able to disrobe and put back on their clothes within 10 seconds, he says.

Once they disrobe in a public spot, he says he snaps about 8 or 10 quick photos and they throw back on the clothes. It's all done in a matter of about 15 to 20 seconds.

He says he, the models and other volunteers makes sure there are no cops or kids around. He says he's been arrested once. It was 1997 in Ann Arbor during the Midnight Madness Sale while taking a photo of a male model. He said the charges were later dropped.

He says he's currently writing a training manual on how to shoot nude photos in public without getting arrested. Some of his works are included in a 2015 calendar he put out.
