U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee, a Flint Democrat, whose national profile was raised when he became one of the notable political advocates for citizens victimized by the water crisis, won't run for governor in 2018, MIRS news service reports.
Kildee, 58, whose name was often mentioned as a gubernatorial candidate, will instead run for for a fourth Congressional term.
So far, the Democratic field for governor includes former state Sen. Gretchen Whitmer and former Detroit health department director Dr. Abdul El-Sayed.
Kildee is a Flint native who serves on the House Financial Services Committee.
Before coming to Congress, he served as the Genesee County Treasurer and on the Genesee County Board of Commissioners and Flint Board of Education.
