Angry, confused fans label Garth Brooks a Bernie bro for wearing Barry Sanders jersey in Detroit

Update: Barry Sanders responds.

Garth Brooks fans apparently have little love for socialism and little knowledge of football.

The country star has been catching heat for posting a photo of himself in a Barry Sanders jersey at a recent concert at Ford Field. That's because his supporters think it has something to do with Bernie Sanders, the Democratic frontrunner for president.

Detroit You carried me all night long But you always have I’m in love with you! love, g #GARTHinDETROIT

Comments on the Instagram post have climbed well above 4,000 as fans express outrage that the god-fearing country singer has turned red on them. Others, who've heard of Barry Sanders the former Lions running back, have shown up with popcorn to watch it all unfold.

Here's a sampling:

  • @popeoftruth: "I guess supporting a socialist that has only lifted himself up and named 2 post offices in 40 years of being in politics is your choice. But don’t get comfortable with your lifestyle because if Fidel Sanders gets in, it’s gone!"

  • @Chrisay58: "Nothing like supporting a communist to loss [sic] a few fans! How about going to a successful socialist country and doing some research? Oh yes, you can't because there aren't any successful socialist countries!"

  • @Smoke52020: "If this is for Bernie Sanders, I'm done with you. I thought you were a true American that loves Our Country?"

  • @RayeKirby: "Well guess ur no different from other celebrities,,but thought you might be. We don't need to know who u vote for an especially at ur concert."

  • @btuttle1: "I've always enjoyed your music but I completely 100% wholeheartedly disagree with the fact that you are representing Bernie Sanders... You know how hard many of us Americans work for our money We don't need somebody stealing it from us or forcing us to pay for people who don't want to work anymore! Why is it always the ones with so much money that are so willing to give away the money of those who work so hard for so little?"

And our favorite:

  • @adelia.grace_: "Lmao y’all really showing how dumb trump supporters are."
