The GOP field assembling to challenge Gretchen Whitmer in 2022 got a new member today as Tudor Dixon announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination.

Before you say, "Who's Tudor Dixon?" be advised we had the same question.

Dixon is described as a conservative commentator, and it's a reflection of just how bubbled-in we are that honestly, your Thursday-morning news aggregator here at Deadline had never heard of Dixon or her show, so thank you, Detroit News for running it down:

Dixon hosts a daily show called "America's Voice Live" on the online media platform Real America's Voice. She formerly worked in sales for the steel industry and is the mother of four children.

Dixon lives in Norton Shores, which we'd also never heard of, but appears to be part of the Greater Muskegon metroplex.

On a Fox News show, "I'm Right With Jesse Kelly" (which we'd also never heard of), Dixon positioned herself as, you'll never guess, the anti-Whitmer:

"It's hurt the state so significantly when you look at what's happening with Michigan. You look at hospitality, you look at businesses – just yesterday businesses were actually allowed to bring their people back into the office," Dixon added. "We have our schools shut down still, we have many students that are out of school and she supported the teachers union… she's supported keeping businesses closed."

Dixon faces lots of maybe-candidates -- retiring DPD Chief James Craig, RNC National Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, potentially John James and Pat Colbeck -- as well as declared candidate Garrett Soldano, a Kalamazoo-area chiropractor.
