Midtown Crepe Crisis: Good Girls Go To Paris Facing Eviction

April 02, 2014, 8:13 AM

Good Girls Go To Paris Crepes, a popular restaurant in the Park Shelton apartments across from the Detroit Institute of Arts, is facing eviction, JC Reindl reports in the Free Press.

Park Shelton officials are seeking to terminate owner Torya Blanchard's lease, claiming in court documents that Blanchard never received permission this winter to move her eatery out of a smaller storefront in the same building. The Good Girls space was until January occupied by Blanchard’s former restaurant, Rodin, named for the famous French sculptor.

Blanchard, a former French teacher who gives her crepes names, contends that the landlord was aware of her intention to switch storefronts.

The entrepreneur told Reindl Good Girls is doing good business, but she is having trouble affording the rent. Monthly rate is currently $4,400, she said.

Blanchard, 36, is a local success story. After serving as an au pair in Paris, she studied French at Wayne State University and opened her first crepe stand in a tiny space on John R, near Woodward, in 2008. She subsequently moved to the Midtown location.
